Neah Bay and the surrounding area of the NW Olympic peninsula has been Makah Indian territory for generations. In the late 1700s, Spanish explorers were the first Europeans to arrive here, in what would become Washington State. Spain briefly claimed the area for themselves, setting up a fort and settlement. The history of the Northwest corner of our state is rich and full, and it’s one of Ralph Munro’s favorite places.
