This week on “The Impact”:
Washington state’s Chief Privacy Officer and former tech executive Alex Alben weighs in on a major breach at the credit reporting bureau Equifax and what it says about the era of “Big Data.”
“Companies collect a lot of data about an individual and the individual has very few points of access and doesn’t even know what the company has about them,” Alex Alben, WA Chief Privacy Officer. “We need to come up to sort of a reasonable standard for personal data, especially sensitive data.”
Later we check in with the Washington State Actuary to talk about the health of state pensions and prepaid tuition plans.
“There’s a lot of volatility in this program year over year. Tuition policy changes, can change dramatically from one year to the next. So can investment performance,” said Matt Smith, Washington State Actuary.
We also highlight meeting in Washington D.C. where Washington state leaders met with the U.S. Department of Justice staff to discuss the state regulated marijuana market.
