UW Clean Energy Testbeds Battery Lab Launch Event

Washington Governor Jay Inslee, joined by representatives from the University of Washington, state and local officials and others, helps unveil plans for a new open-access laboratory with state-of-the-art capabilities for scaled prototyping of emerging battery technologies.

The University of Washington Clean Energy Institute is expanding its climate tech facility, the Washington Clean Energy Testbeds, to enable researchers and industry users to produce pouch cell batteries — a versatile battery format for electric transportation and beyond — to allow for development and testing at commercially-relevant scales. This capability will help drive innovation to meet the growing demand for batteries that charge faster and hold more energy using more abundant and earth-friendly materials.
