Legislative Review: Medicaid Care for Drug-Exposed Newborns & Real Estate “Pocket” Listings

Tonight on Legislative Review, Washington lawmakers consider proposals focused on newborn health care and housing market transparency:

Medicaid funding for newborns exposed to drugs

Senate Bill 6094 would expand care for babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome by making specialized residential pediatric recovery centers—like Maddie’s Place in Spokane—eligible for Medicaid funding. Supporters say the approach keeps families together and could reduce long-term health and foster care costs, while state health officials raise questions about feasibility and outcomes compared to hospital care.

Crackdown on real estate “pocket” listings

Lawmakers also debate Senate Bill 6091, which would limit so-called private or “pocket” real estate listings by requiring homes to be publicly listed if they’re marketed at all. Supporters argue the change promotes fairness and equal access in a tight housing market, while critics warn it could limit flexibility for sellers and buyers.
