State of Washington v. Matthew Bentley
- In 2024, a jury convicted Matthew Bentley of two counts of assault in the first degree – each with a firearm enhancement, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count of malicious mischief in the third degree for an incident involving the shooting of two brothers—Alexander and Timothy Kabinov—at their home. Bentley appeals contending, among other things, that his right to present a defense and to a fair trial was violated, and the imposition of two firearm enhancements violates double jeopardy.
