Division 1 Court of Appeals

Personal Restraint Petition of Mahamad Sayidin

A jury convicted Mahamad Sayidin of robbery in the first degree. This court affirmed his conviction on direct appeal. Now, Sayidin brings a personal restraint petition asserting the trial court erred when it did not sua sponte order a competency hearing before or during trial. He also argues that he received ineffective assistance of counsel when his trial counsel did not request a competency hearing before his trial began or during trial. The State responds that the petition is untimely and, on the merits, that his claims fail. COA# 871889. King County Superior Court# 16-1-00644-9 SEA.
