Craig Williams, v. Peacehealth
Todd Williams consumed an unknown quantity of prescription drugs and was admitted to PeaceHealth emergency department. After monitoring Williams, Dr. Manzo decided he could not detain Williams under the ITA, and he discharged him. Williams was later hit and killed by a car. Williams’s estate brought claims for negligence against, among others, Dr. Manzo. Dr. Manzo moved for summary judgment, which the superior court granted. Williams’s estate appeals, arguing that the court erred by improperly weighing expert witness credibility, not finding a genuine issue of material fact, and in its application of the gross negligence standard.
