THE NEED
A less informed, less engaged community undermines our democratic way of life.
THE POLITICAL DIVIDE
Political division has become a significant part of modern America, shaping how people vote, communicate, and view one another across party lines. Surveys and studies have shown that Americans are becoming increasingly separated along political party lines, unwilling or unable to connect with those who disagree with them.
VOTING
Voter participation in the United States often falls short, leaving significant portions of the population unheard in elections that shape the nation’s future.

DECLINING ENGAGEMENT
One of the bedrocks of a healthy, high-functioning democracy is strong engagement from its citizens. Although some of the engagement that existed before the pandemic has rebounded, a large number of Americans are still not engaging in the process.
THE FOURTH ESTATE
The freedom of the press is so important that it is enshrined in the First Amendment of our country’s Constitution. Over the years, dwindling profits, lack of engagement, and the proliferation of new sources have led to a shrinking press corps, which adversely affects state and local reporting.
